Why Document Quizzes

When you distribute policies or procedures, you often need proof that people have understood the content—not just clicked "I've read it." Document quizzes require users to answer multiple-choice questions and get 100% correct before they can acknowledge. This ensures they engage with the material rather than skimming. Use quizzes for critical policies like safeguarding, health and safety, or compliance training where understanding matters. Quizzes work with the distribution system—when you create a distribution, you can choose "Quiz" as the acknowledgement type and attach a quiz.

How to Create a Quiz

  1. Go to Documents > Quizzes

  2. Click Create Quiz

  3. Enter a Title (required) and Description (optional)

  4. Optionally link a Source document—useful when generating questions from document content

  5. Add questions:

    • Manually: Click Add Question, enter the question text, add 2–4 options, and mark exactly one as correct

    • With AI: Click Generate with AI, choose From prompt (enter a topic) or From document (select an editor document), then click Generate—AI creates multiple-choice questions you can edit or add to

  6. Click Save to create the quiz

Note: AI quiz generation works only for editor documents (calmdoc), not uploaded PDFs. PDF quiz support is coming soon.

How to Use a Quiz in a Distribution

  1. When creating a distribution, set the acknowledgement type to Quiz

  2. In the Quiz field, select the quiz you want recipients to complete

  3. Recipients must read the document, answer all questions correctly, and can retry immediately until they pass

  4. Once they pass, their acknowledgement is recorded—no attempt history or scoring is stored, just pass/fail

Before You Start

  • You need the Admin role for Documents to create and manage quizzes. If you don't see Documents > Quizzes or Create Quiz, ask your site administrator for Admin access.

  • Quizzes can only be created from editor documents (calmdoc). PDF documents are not yet supported for AI generation.

  • Documents must have a published version before you can generate quiz questions from them.

Common Questions

Can I use a quiz for a PDF document? You can create a quiz manually on any topic and attach it to a distribution that includes a PDF. AI generation from PDF content is not yet supported.

Do users get multiple attempts? Yes. Users can retry immediately until they pass. There is no limit on attempts—the goal is engagement, not assessment.

Is there a pass score or attempt history? No. Quizzes require 100% correct. CalmCompliance records only that the user passed—no per-attempt tracking or scoring reports.

Can I edit a quiz after it's been used in a distribution? Yes. Edits apply to future distributions. Recipients who already passed are not affected.

How do I delete a quiz? Open the quiz from Documents > Quizzes, click the delete option, and confirm. Remove the quiz from any active distributions first—otherwise those distributions may fail when recipients try to complete them.
