Add a map to a risk assessment
Add a Map section to a risk assessment draft to show a location, site entrance, or hazard area on a Google Map. You can search for a place, drop and drag a pin, add an optional label, and save the view you need. Once the assessment is published, the map shows as a still image instead of an interactive map.
Before you start
You need at least the Member role for the Risks module to add, edit, or remove a Map section on a draft assessment. Published and older versions are read-only. For role details, see Risks roles and access.
Map editing is only available when your organisation has set up Google Maps for CalmCompliance. If the map editor does not appear, ask your administrator to check the setup.
Add a Map section
Open the draft assessment.
Click Add Section, or click the Add Map chip in the start hub.
In the section picker, choose Map under the Basic group. You can use the search box to filter the list.
Enter a Title and optional Description, then click Save. The map appears once the title is saved.
Edit the map
Inside the Map section, use the search field to find a place or address.
Click anywhere on the map to drop a pin. Drag the pin to move it to the right spot.
Enter an optional Pin Label to describe the location, such as a site entrance or hazard area.
Pan and zoom the map to set the view you want to keep. The centre and zoom level are saved automatically with the pin.
Click Save to store the pin, label, and view. Click Cancel to discard changes. Click Clear Pin to remove the pin and label while keeping the saved view.
Edit the section title or description
In the section header, click the edit control.
Update the Title and Description.
Click Save. Click Cancel to discard changes.
What published versions look like
When an assessment is published, the Map section becomes read-only. The interactive map and search field are hidden, and a still image of the saved map shows the view, pin, and label. The title and description remain visible.
Export and print
Map sections appear in Full PDF and browser print output when they contain something worth showing: a pin, a custom title or description, or a saved view that is not the default starting view. If a Map section has no pin, no title, no description, and only the default starting view, it is left out of the export. When included, the export shows the title, description, and a still image of the map with the pin and label.
Delete a Map section
In the section header, click the delete control.
Confirm the Delete Map Section dialog. The button text changes to Deleting… while the action is in progress. This permanently removes the section and its saved map data.
