If you see a toast message such as Failed to add emission value, Failed to update emission value, or Failed to remove emission value, check that you entered a valid numeric value and selected a unit that matches the kind. Vibration kinds must use m/sΒ²; noise kinds must use dB(A) or dB(C). If the error persists, refresh the page and try again.
Add emission values to equipment risk profiles
Emission values on equipment risk profiles store vibration and noise figures so you can assess exposure and keep a single source of truth for each piece of equipment. Each profile can hold multiple values per kind, with one default per kind that appears in assessment chips and summary views.
Before you start
You need the Manager role for the Risks module to add, edit, or remove emission values. For a full role overview, see Risks roles and access. Equipment risk profiles are managed from the Risks module; if you need to create or edit the profile itself, see the equipment risk register workflow.
Kinds of emission value
Each emission value belongs to one of four kinds. The compact labels appear in summary chips and assessment rows.
Hand-arm Vibration β compact label HAV
Whole-body Vibration β compact label WBV
Noise (Sound Pressure) β compact label Noise
Noise (Sound Power) β compact label Noise (power)
Fields on each emission value
Every emission value has the following fields:
Kind β the emission type from the list above
Value β the numeric measurement
Unit β m/sΒ² for vibration kinds; dB(A) or dB(C) for noise kinds
Source β where the figure came from: Manufacturer Declared, HSE Database, Measured in Use, Third Party, or Other
Uncertainty K β optional uncertainty factor
Source Reference β optional reference detail
Operating Condition β optional operating context
Notes β optional free-text detail
Add an emission value
Open the equipment risk profile from the Risks module.
On the detail page, find the Emission Values section.
Click Add Emission Value.
Select the Kind from the dropdown.
Enter the Value and choose the correct Unit for that kind.
Select the Source and fill in any optional fields: Uncertainty K, Source Reference, Operating Condition, or Notes.
Click Save.
The new value appears in the Emission Values section, grouped under its kind. If no default exists for that kind, set the new value as default so it appears in summary chips.
Edit an emission value
In the Emission Values section, find the value you want to change.
Click Edit emission value on the row.
Update the fields you need to change.
Click Save. To discard changes, click Cancel.
Set or change the default value for a kind
Only one value per kind can be the default. The default is the value that appears in summary chips and is used in assessment rows.
In the Emission Values section, find the kind group you want to update.
Click Set as default on the value you want to promote.
The selected value is marked with the Default value label. If the kind already had a default, the previous default is removed.
Remove an emission value
In the Emission Values section, find the value you want to delete.
Click Remove emission value on the row.
In the confirmation dialog, click Remove.
Removing a value deletes it permanently. If you remove the current default for a kind, you will need to set a new default before the kind appears in summary chips again.
How summary chips appear
When an equipment risk profile has at least one emission value, compact chips appear on the register list and on the detail page. Each chip shows the compact label for the kind and its default value:
HAV β hand-arm vibration default
WBV β whole-body vibration default
Noise β noise (sound pressure) default
Noise (power) β noise (sound power) default
Only the default value for each kind is shown in chips. If a kind has no values, no chip appears for that kind.
Troubleshooting
Failed to add, update, or remove emission value
Cannot set this value as the default
If you see Cannot set this value as the default or Failed to update the default value, the value may be missing a required field or the unit may not match the kind. Ensure the value and unit are filled in correctly before setting it as default.
Enter a valid value and unit for the selected kind
This validation message appears when the numeric value is empty or the unit does not match the selected kind. Choose the correct unit from the dropdown: m/sΒ² for Hand-arm Vibration or Whole-body Vibration; dB(A) or dB(C) for Noise (Sound Pressure) or Noise (Sound Power).
