Assign and manage skills on personnel records
Assign skills to a personnel record from the Skills section on the person page, and remove or review them there. Skills come from two sources: skills you assign manually and skills that accreditation records contribute automatically.
Before you start
You need the Manager or Admin role for the Personnel module to assign and remove skills. A Member can view skills when they can view the personnel record. For the full role breakdown, see Personnel roles and access.
Add a skill
The Skills section sits on the personnel record below Groups. Managers and Admins see the Add Skill control (a plus button) that opens a searchable picker of system skills.
Open the person page for the personnel record.
In the Skills section, click Add Skill.
Search the picker using the Search skills field, or scroll the All Skills list. If no skill matches your search, the picker shows No skills found.
Select the skill to assign it. Selecting an already-assigned skill removes it.
Skills are listed alphabetically. A skill you assign manually is a capability claim: it records that the person has the skill, but on its own it is not proof of competence. Only skills that a compliance requirement references carry compliance weight.
Remove a manually assigned skill
Remove a skill you assigned manually by clicking its remove control on the skill badge in the Skills section, or by selecting the already-assigned skill again in the Add Skill picker.
If the skill is not linked to a compliance requirement, it is removed immediately. If removing it would take the person out of an active requirement's population, you must confirm first.
Confirm removal of an enforced skill
Removing a skill that an active compliance requirement references can remove the person from that requirement's population, so the record asks you to confirm.
The confirmation reads Remove this enforced skill? with the message: This skill is referenced by an active compliance requirement. Removing it also removes this person from that requirement's population. Click Confirm removal to remove the skill, or Cancel to keep it.
Accreditation-derived skills are locked
Accreditation records can automatically contribute mapped skills to a personnel record. These skills are locked: they show a lock icon, appear as disabled items in the Add Skill picker, and cannot be removed from the Skills section. To change an accreditation-derived skill, update the accreditation record that supplies it.
Inherited skills on child sites
When a personnel record is shared with a child site, its skills are inherited read-only. The child site shows Inherited from {source site name}. Skills are managed at the owning site. with a View at {source site name} link that opens the record at the owning site. You cannot add or remove skills from an inherited record; manage them at the owning site instead. For how inheritance works, see Share companies and personnel records with child sites.
