Add hazardous material sections to a risk assessment
Risk assessments support two hazard-related section types. Use Hazard Classifications to record which standard GHS hazard categories apply to the assessment. Use Hazardous Materials to link live register records so the assessment stays current with the latest names, descriptions, and pictograms.
Before you start
You need at least the Member role for the Risks module to add, edit, or delete sections on a draft assessment. Published and historical versions are read-only. For role details, see Risks roles and access.
Add a Hazard Classifications section
Open the draft assessment.
Click Add Section.
Choose Hazard Classifications.
Enter a Title and optional Description, then click Save.
In the section header, click the edit control.
Select the classifications that apply. The options are Explosive, Flammable, Oxidising, Gas under pressure, Corrosive, Acute toxicity, Harmful, Serious health hazard, Environmental hazard, Biological, and Radioactive.
Add any optional notes in the Classification Notes field.
Click Save.
Add a Hazardous Materials section
Open the draft assessment.
Click Add Section.
Under the Linked records group, choose Hazardous Materials.
Enter a Title and optional Description, then click Save.
In the section, click Link Hazardous Materials.
In the Select Hazardous Materials to Link picker, use the search box or the list to find the materials you want. Click Select All or Deselect All to change the selection quickly.
Click Link Hazardous Material or Link Hazardous Materials to confirm. The picker closes and the linked rows appear in the section. Each row shows the material's current name, description when present, and hazard pictograms.
Remove a linked material
In the Hazardous Materials section, find the row you want to remove.
Click the remove action on the row.
In the Remove Hazardous Material dialog, click Remove.
Removing a link does not delete the material from the register. It only removes the reference from this assessment.
Edit or delete a hazard section
Both section types can be edited and deleted like any other assessment section. In the section header, click the edit control to update the Title and Description. Click Save to keep changes, or Cancel to discard them. To delete the section, click the delete control and confirm. Deleting a Hazard Classifications section removes its classifications and notes from the assessment. Deleting a Hazardous Materials section removes the linked rows.
How hazard sections appear in print and export
Full PDF and browser print output list sections in the order they appear on the assessment page.
A Hazard Classifications section prints the selected pictograms and names, plus any Classification Notes.
A Hazardous Materials section prints each linked material with its current name, description when present, and hazard pictograms. If a linked material is removed from the register, the row shows Material no longer available.
