Managing asset classes and linked definitions

Link, unlink, and set a primary class for asset models directly from the asset class or asset model screens. You need the Admin role for the Premises module to make these changes.

Link a model so that assets created from it are classified under that class. You can start from either screen.

From the asset class screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Classes and open the class.

  2. In the Asset Models card, select a model from the Pick a model to link… picker.

  3. Click Link.

The model appears in the linked list. Its assets are now included when you filter or report by this class.

From the asset model screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Models and open the model.

  2. In the Asset Classes section, select a class from the Pick a class to link… picker.

  3. Click Link.

Unlinking removes the classification relationship but does not delete the model or its assets.

From the asset class screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Classes and open the class.

  2. In the Asset Models card, open the row menu for the linked model.

  3. Click Unlink model.

From the asset model screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Models and open the model.

  2. In the Asset Classes section, open the row menu for the linked class.

  3. Click Unlink class.

Set a primary class

When a model is linked to multiple classes, one class is marked as the primary. The primary class is shown with a Primary badge.

From the asset class screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Classes and open the class.

  2. In the Asset Models card, open the row menu for the linked model.

  3. Click Set as primary class for model.

From the asset model screen

  1. Go to Premises > Asset Models and open the model.

  2. In the Asset Classes section, open the row menu for the linked class.

  3. Click Set as primary class.

A model can belong to multiple classes, but only one is primary. Changing the primary class updates the badge immediately.

What these changes affect

Linking or unlinking a model updates how it appears in class filters and asset lists. It does not change existing asset instance records. Setting a primary class changes which class is shown as the main classification for the model.

For more on how classes, models, and instances work together, see Asset Classes.
