Adopting and Managing Standards

Archive and Restore a Standard

Archiving a standard removes it from active site tracking while preserving its requirements, evidence links, and role assignments for audit. Restoring an archived standard returns it to its previous lifecycle status, or to Adopting if the prior status is not available.

Who can archive and restore

Both actions require the Admin role for the Standards module. If you do not see the archive option, ask your site administrator to review your role in Settings.

A standard can only be archived when its current status is Adopting or Active. You can only restore a standard that is currently Archived.

Archive a standard

  1. Open the standard detail page for the standard you want to archive.

  2. In the page header, click Archive.

  3. In the Archive Standard confirmation dialog, review the message:

This hides the standard from normal site lists. All requirements, evidence links, and role assignments are retained and can be restored later from the Library.

  4. Click Archive to confirm. While the request is processing, the button label changes to Archiving...

If the archive action fails, the message Failed to archive standard appears.

What happens when a standard is archived

  • The standard status changes to Archived.

  • The previous status is preserved internally so it can be restored later.

  • The standard is hidden from normal site lists and dashboards.

  • The standard remains visible in the Standards Library with an Archived status so it can be restored later.

  • All requirements, evidence links, and role assignments remain intact.

  • The action is recorded in the audit trail.

Restore an archived standard

  1. Go to the Standards Library.

  2. Find the archived standard. Its card shows the Archived status.

  3. Open the standard detail panel.

  4. Select Restore.

When you restore an archived standard, it returns to the status it held before it was archived. If the prior status cannot be determined, it defaults to Adopting. Restoring also clears the preserved prior status and records the action in the audit trail.

Only standards that are currently Archived can be restored. If you attempt to restore a standard that is not archived, the system returns the error Only archived standards can be restored.

Review archive and restore events in the audit history

Archive and restore actions are recorded in the audit trail. To review them, go to Settings > Audit Log and look for the Standard Archived and Standard Restored events. Each entry shows the timestamp, the action, and the actor who performed it.

Troubleshooting

Failed to archive standard

This error appears when the archive request could not be completed. Common causes include the standard already being archived, or a network or server issue. Verify the standard is currently Adopting or Active, then try again.

Only archived standards can be restored

This error appears when you attempt to restore a standard that is not in Archived status. Check the standard status before attempting to restore it.
