Calm Mode
Calm Mode is a four-step slider that progressively suppresses notification email while keeping in-app inbox delivery instant. Organisation owners set a default level for the whole site; members can inherit it or choose their own. You can also override Calm for individual notification kinds when needed.
What Calm Mode does
Calm Mode only affects email. Inbox notifications arrive instantly regardless of your calm level. The daily Outstanding Items Summary also always sends by email, even when Calm Mode suppresses other messages.
The four levels
Level | Label | What it suppresses |

1 | Calm | Routine action-item emails that already appear in the daily summary, such as new distribution assignments and training course assignments. |
2 | Calmer | Everything in Calm, plus followed-record update emails. This includes followed document republished, risk assessment updated, service desk activity, and comment-thread activity. |
3 | Calmest | Everything in Calm and Calmer, plus approval requests, individual assignments, work-order reminders, and submission confirmations. |
What stays email-enabled
Some notification kinds are never suppressed by Calm Mode. These include direct comment mentions, export-ready notifications, account and system messages, ticket-decline outcomes, and the daily Outstanding Items Summary itself.
Organisation defaults and member overrides
Organisation owners set an organisation-wide default calm level in Settings > Notifications under the Defaults tab. Members without a personal level automatically inherit this default.
Members can set a personal calm level in Settings > Notifications (Personal). A personal level overrides the organisation default until it is cleared.
Per-kind overrides
When a notification kind is muted by your Calm Mode level, its email checkbox shows unticked with a Calm badge. Tick the checkbox to create an explicit override and receive email for that kind anyway. To return it to following your slider level, click Following Calm · Reset.
Reset all personal preferences
Click Reset to Default in your notification preferences to clear your personal Calm Mode level and all per-kind overrides, returning every setting to the organisation default.
