Using Setup Mode
Setup Mode controls whether non-owner members receive organization notifications. New organizations start live, so everyone receives organization notifications according to their normal preferences from the start. If you prefer to finish setup quietly, you can return the organization to quiet setup, where only owners receive organization notifications. Identity and authentication emails always deliver, even while the organization is quiet.
What quiet and live mean
Organizations can be in one of two states:
Quiet — An organization enters this state only when an owner or authorised organisation administrator returns it to quiet setup; new organizations start live instead. Owners receive organization notifications normally. Non-owners receive no organization notifications, so they are not disturbed while you configure users, tags, policies, and templates.
Live — Everyone receives organization notifications according to their personal preferences. Going live sends a one-time message that each unannounced non-owner’s account is ready. Creating a new organization live does not send this message; it is sent only when a quiet organization is taken live. That message is sent only once per member; returning to quiet and going live again does not resend it to anyone already announced.
Organizations that already existed keep their current state; only newly created organizations start live.
Identity and authentication emails—such as verification, sign-in, and password-reset messages—always send regardless of Setup Mode. Notifications suppressed while the organization was quiet are not replayed when you go live; members only receive the account-ready message (if they were not already announced) and then future notifications as usual.
How to go live
New organizations are already live, so these steps apply when an organization is quiet. Owners can take a quiet organization live from three places. Each path shows a confirmation that states how many people will be emailed that their account is ready. People who were already notified are not emailed again.
From the inbox banner
Look for the banner that says Setup mode is on at the top of your inbox.
Click Start sending notifications.
Review the confirmation, including how many people will be emailed that their account is ready.
Click Start Sending Notifications to confirm.
The organization is now live. Members added while quiet receive the account-ready message if they have not already been announced, and future organization notifications go to everyone according to their preferences.
From Settings > Notifications
Go to Settings > Notifications and open the Defaults tab.
Find the Setup Mode section. Current State shows a badge that reads Quiet or Live.
Click Start Sending Notifications.
Review the confirmation, including how many people will be emailed that their account is ready.
Click Start Sending Notifications to confirm.
From the admin organization page
Go to the admin organization page for the organization you manage.
Find the Setup Mode section. When the organization is quiet, the description reads Non-owners receive no organisation notifications until live.
Click Start Sending Notifications.
Review the confirmation, including how many people will be emailed that their account is ready.
Click Start Sending Notifications to confirm.
Only organization owners can change Setup Mode from the inbox banner or Settings. The confirmation action stays unavailable while the recipient count is still loading, or if the count cannot be loaded.
How to return to quiet
You can pause non-owner organization notifications again after going live.
Go to Settings > Notifications and open the Defaults tab, or open the admin organization page.
Find the Setup Mode section. Current State shows a badge that reads Live.
Click Return to Quiet Setup.
Confirm with Return to Quiet Setup.
Non-owners stop receiving organization notifications until the organization goes live again. Members who were already announced are not emailed the account-ready message again on the next go-live.
Finishing onboarding while quiet
If your organization is still quiet when you finish the onboarding checklist, completing onboarding also takes the organization live. The Finish Onboarding confirmation explains that finishing hides the setup checklist and starts sending notifications to everyone, and it shows how many people will be emailed that their account is ready. Click Finish Onboarding to confirm.
Audit log
Every Setup Mode change is recorded in the audit log as Setup Mode Changed. The event shows who changed the state, when it changed, and whether the organization moved to quiet or live.
